The latest “hair looping” trend encourages you to change your shampoo and conditioner for every wash depending on the results you want to achieve, and use a clarifying shampoo every few weeks as a complete reset.

I’m trying the top three.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Cleansing & Balancing Shampoo lathers very well.

Budget

The Body Shop Tea Tree Cleansing & Balancing Shampoo, £8.50 for 250ml, thebodyshop.com: This shampoo lathers very well, so it provides deep cleansing quickly.

It makes hair shiny and contains vegan silk protein, which helps to repair hair from the inside out and strengthens it at the same time.

Although my hair was thoroughly cleansed, it turned greasy just as quickly as with regular shampoo.

Plus, I’m not a fan of the scent, I find it too medicinal. But if you like invigorating scents, you’ll love it.

Even though Aveda is one of my favorite hair care brands, this shampoo is my least favorite out of the three.

Aveda Rosemary Mint Clarifying Shampoo, £16.50 for 250 ml, lookfantastic.com: Even though Aveda is one of my favorite hair care brands, this shampoo was my least favorite out of the three.

As with the tea tree shampoo above, I didn’t like the herbal scent of rosemary and mint.

And I found that I had to wash my hair twice to get close to the best shampoo I’ve tried.

Sure, I use a lot of styling products and I have naturally oily hair, so I probably have more blemishes than most, but it wasn’t the complete reset I was hoping for.

But if you’re just worried about greasy roots, this is probably gentle enough to use with every wash.

Living Proof perfect hair day Triple Detox Shampoo, £25 for 160ml, Livingproof.co.uk: I was skeptical when I first saw its resinous consistency, but it wasn’t necessary. This was my favorite.

My hair has never been so clean, although it does take a little longer to wash as the shampoo doesn’t lather very well.

Otherwise, I have no complaints. My hair easily lasts a couple of extra days before I need to wash it and despite deep cleaning it doesn’t feel brittle or dry.

Plus, because it’s Living Proof, it’s free of silicones, parabens, and sulfates.
