At Smino’s annual holiday concert “Kribmas” there is usually something special coming out. And it happened again this year when Mayor Tishaura Jones declared December 18th Smino Day in the city of St. Louis.

Jones pre-recorded videocreated by the independent label Zero Fatigue in honor of the St. Louis rapper.

“I just want to congratulate Smino on the fifth anniversary of Kribmas,” Jones says in the video. “Represents the crib, right? And I also want to congratulate him on his work in the community and the fact that he is just an amazingly talented artist.”

The video was shown during Krybmas’ Sunday concert, where he was also given a framed proclamation.

In recent years, Smino has become one of St. Louis’ most famous musical artists. He recently released his third studio album, Love 4 Rent, and his song “90 Proof” with Jay Cole has over 1.5 million views on YouTube. He will start his national tour in January with JID.

But first, Smino made a stop in St. Louis for his fifth Kribmas holiday benefit concert and his first since the pandemic. In years past, he’s attracted Nellie and rocked Air Force 1s painted by local artist Brock Seals.

Prior to this year’s Spotify-sponsored benefit concert at the Stifel Theatre, he hosted sneaker and holiday card design workshops. Proceeds from the sweater party also went to the Annie Malone Foundation. He is also involved in the creation of an art school in St. Louis.

Although he now lives in Los Angeles, Smino told reporters. RFT in early December that St. Louis still holds an important place in his heart.

“I’m from St. Louis, shit,” he said. “I feel like when I say I’m from St. Louis, how I deal with my shit and who I am speaks for itself. I have nothing to say. It’s like I’m from Lou. You know how we move. You know what attitude. You know what my energy is.”
