Manchester United have overtaken Liverpool in the race for Argentina’s world champion Enzo Fernandez, according to journalist Bruno Andrade.
The 21-year-old won the Young Player of the Tournament award for his excellent performance in Qatar.
And his performances on the biggest stage aroused the interest of Jurgen Klopp’s people.
But now Eric ten Hag’s side are reported to be leading the charge in signing the Benfica player.
On Friday night, Andrade tweeted: “There are already conversations going on between all the members.
The Red Devils are even willing to bypass the €120m clause and avoid any competition.”
Meanwhile, Eddie Howe is looking to secure another major Newcastle deal in January amid ties to France star Marcus Thuram.
He said: “We would love another transfer like (Bruno Guimarães) because I thought it would transform the team and the group.
“They are hard to find, but our job is to try to find them, and we will try to do it.
“I don’t pretend to watch the players, I watch them for the purpose of signing them.”
