HENRY DE BROMHEAD hopes he has found the key to Allen.
Much to the relief of Paul Nicholls and company, the stylish Envoy Allen will be the only Irish contender this year in the pursuit of King George VI.
He looked untouchable early in his career as a rookie in hurdles and pursuit, but he fell on his debut for De Bromhead (right) and the wheels subsequently came off.
However, he immediately returned to his best as he climbed three miles in pursuit of the Down Royal champion.
He was too strong for the likes of Conflate and Galvin in that race and his coach thinks there is still a lot of improvement ahead.
De Bromhead said: “His last win was a big eye opener for us. After beating John Durkan last December, I said I would be back two miles with him.

“For a while I made proper eggs out of it. Most of the time we pushed him to the wrong ride.
“He looked so good at Down Royal and I loved how well he went through the line.
“He rides very well and unlike Minella Indo at last year’s King George where you always felt like it was a bit forced, I think the race will really suit him.
“He can still improve his jumps a bit, but he’s in great shape right now.”
