Cummings’ Australia, of course, played against BOTH of today’s finalists in action at the start of the tournament.

In their first game of the group stage, the Australians quickly took the lead against Kylian Mbappe and France but ended up losing 4-1.

That day, the Edinburgh star came on as a second-half substitute in what turned out to be his only appearance in the tournament.

He joined many of the SPFL on the team, including Celtic midfielder Aaron Mooy and former Scotland under-19 defender Harry Suttar.

Graham Arnold’s team also had something to be proud of: they bounced back from their opening day defeat and advanced to the group stage, beating Tunisia and Denmark.

However, the round of 16 meeting with Messi and Argentina ended up being too far away.

Australia pulled back one ball from a two-goal deficit but failed to equalize and lost 2–1.

Speaking on his social media, Cummings showed off his jerseys after the clashes and even gave some advice to Messi ahead of today’s France-Argentina match.

An image featuring Argentinian Sevilla defender Gonzalo Montiel and France’s Jules Kunde read: “I can’t believe we played both of these top teams.

“My head says what my heart says about Argentina.”

He then added a message with Messi’s light-hearted message that read: “Do the basics right, Leo.

“Don’t play on the lead, play the game.

“All the best, Kamdog. @LeoMessi.

Many of the striker’s friends and former teammates, including John McGinn, Martin Boyle and Charlie Mulgrew, laughed in response.

One fan even added: “What a picture, GOAT and Messi in one photo.”

Meanwhile, Ryan Jack spoke about his indefinite contract with the Rangers and turned to negotiations for a new deal.
