The Consett Hub is the official name of the building formerly known as The Braes. Inside is the MINT Business Club, which offers weekly networking and business training.

The founder of the organization, Nicola Jane Little, has been looking for a place where she can fulfill her dream for 10 years. For the past fourteen years, she has been self-employed helping small business owners by providing training to a network of consultants throughout the Northeast. She is also a former teacher qualified in SEN student support.

When she bought the building in 2022, it had been unused for over 2 years and her task was to turn it into the community space she envisioned.

Nicola, who has lived in Consett for 8 years, has always planned to invest in the area. So after buying The Braes, she and her husband Mike, along with family, members and helpers, transformed the space with lots of paint, hard work and furniture.

Hub’s mission is to promote other businesses, and on the ground floor is the Hub Market Place, which is thriving thanks to Donna Tunney, Marketing Manager, who was appointed this June.

Originally intended to be a showcase for 20-30 members of the Mint, Donna now houses more than 70 small businesses under Donna’s watchful eye.

From Thursday, December 1, The Hub will open late in the evening, and you will have the opportunity to buy gifts made by local artists to order. The center is open until 20:00 on Thursdays and Fridays until Christmas. It usually operates from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 15:00.

Also on the ground floor is a co-working space for business and social activities. Complimentary coffee is being provided now as plans to serve food at the café are underway with the addition of a fully functional kitchen next year.

The managed offices upstairs house Nikola’s other companies and have office space available for rent. Currently, Leona’s Mindful Makers meet bi-weekly on Thursdays.

Nikola has big plans for the future and is currently applying for funding to help renovate the windows and exterior of the building, as well as expand the services she provides inside. She has applied for a warm central space and intends to provide a safe environment for everyone that is fully inclusive.

She is also passionate about providing and helping people with additional needs and works with Durham Enable.
