JOHN HARTSON targeted Rangers boss Michael Beal over his ‘other team’ comments about Celtic.
The new Light Blues chief has decided not to name the Old Firm’s rivals as he discusses the bottom of the Premier League’s top table ahead of today’s clash with the Hibs.
The manager insisted that he only focused on his team and not what was happening in the city, as Celtic had won nine points in the title race ahead of the winter break.
When asked about the importance of three against Hibs in closing the nine-point gap, Beal said, “The nine-point gap will only be filled if we win and something happens to the other team.
“At the moment, we can only take care of tomorrow.
“I think it’s clear to everyone that every game at this club feels like a must to win, every week feels like a big week.
“In the three and a half years that I was here before I said, ‘This week is a big week, next week is a big week,’ so I understand that.
“Players have to play at their level.
“If they perform at their level and at the level they are capable of and can show good aggression, they will give themselves a good chance.”
It wasn’t a perfect start for the new Rangers manager tonight as Hibs took the lead early thanks to Ryan Porteous.
A few minutes later, Fashion Sakala equalized before a quick response from Kevin Nisbet returned the visitors’ lead to Ibrox.
And Hoops hero Hartson didn’t wait before shooting Beal over his “other team” comments.
After Hibs scored the first goal, Hartson tweeted, “Stay like this, the other team could get 12 past on Saturday!”
The former Welsh striker’s tweet of course backfired as Rangers opened fire after half time to make it 3-2 thanks to goals from Ryan Jack and Alfredo Morelos.
Beal’s side played to the end and now the two teams at the top of the table are only six points apart, but Celtic have a game in hand.
