A sapper team was sent to a Scottish mosque as the area was evacuated due to “suspicious bags”.
Footage from the scene shows EOD units on duty at Potterrow in the capital, with Edinburgh Central Mosque confirming it will remain closed until further notice.
The mosque said in a statement: “Today we will be closed for the next few hours and until further notice.
“This is due to a couple of bags that we found indoors early this morning.
“The police were alerted to the bags and after checking the CCTV they advised us to leave the building and stop any activity until they removed the bags.
“At the moment we don’t know how long this process might take, however we will post another update once the bags have been removed and the police have concluded it is safe to open the building.”

A Scottish Police spokesman said: “Police have been called to report a suspicious item found at the Potterrow Mosque in Edinburgh.
“As a precaution, a cordon has been set up and EOD personnel are on site.”
Lothian Buses has confirmed that routes 2 and 47 have been diverted via Chambers Street and Nicholson Street in both directions until further notice.
