Matheus Cunha has reportedly become a transfer target for Arsenal as they seek to replace burned-out ace Gabriel Jesus.
Cunha, 23, is up for sale at current club Atlético Madrid.
And Arsenal are trying to take advantage of that by bringing the Brazilian forward to cover up the long absence of Jesús, who had knee surgery earlier this month.
The Gunners have been mulling their options in the January market, including keeping faith in Eddie Nketiah or withdrawing Folarin Balogun from his loan spell at Reims.
However, reports that Arsenal are looking for a solution in the transfer market are gaining momentum and Cunha, the latest player, is on their radar.
Target Arsenal are one of four Premier League clubs interested in the former Hertha Berlin striker.
The report indicates that Wolves are currently in the lead to sign Cunha, while Leeds were also in talks to sign him.
Arsenal and Aston Villa are the other English teams linked with the move, with Unai Emery looking for fresh reinforcements to help Villa avoid a downfall.
However, interest from Mikel Arteta could fade if they manage to bring in the likes of Michialo Mudric or even Joao Felix.
Cunha’s lack of form at club level would likely make his £87m release clause activated by Atletico Madrid unlikely, but the club would sell at that price.

Since joining in the summer of 2021, he has scored just seven goals in 54 matches.
And this year, he failed to score a single goal in any of the 510 minutes he played in all competitions.
Due to this poor form, he missed out on a place in the Titus team at the World Cup in Brazil, and his last international match took place in September.
