Police launched a murder investigation after a man was killed in a busy pub in front of terrified drinkers.

Police rushed to the Lamb and Lion pub in Westcliff, Essex amid reports of a man being attacked Friday night.

Paramedics attempted to rescue him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene on Station Road.

According to eyewitnesses, around 6:40 p.m., armed policemen attacked the overflowing booze.

Police arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of murder shortly after more than a mile from Pierre Hill.

He remains in custody.


The pub has been cordoned off by police while investigators examine the scene.

The police do not believe there is an additional risk to the general public.

Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe of the Kent and Essex Serious Crimes Authority said: “My thoughts and condolences go out to the victim’s family during this very difficult time.


“Our investigation is in its early stages and we are still working to establish the circumstances leading up to the incident.

“The victim was attacked in a busy pub at a time when there were a lot of people around and they could see what happened.

“I need someone who was in the pub who saw the incident or what led up to it to contact us.”
